Best adhesive for rear-view mirror?

I've used the glue from the auto parts store, it was some 2 part stuff.  It worked so good that when the rearview mirror was accidentally bumped with my head, the glue was so strong that it actually took a peice of the glass with it and caused a chip in the windshield.  The key to making it work well is to clean it very well.
