Anyone ever register a car...

Without a Bill of Sale...

I Had an 88 Jetta Wolfsburg given to me by a stranger. It passes a
carfax report and his story matches up to the report.

Problem is I don't know how long it will take to get the BOS from him.
His best friend's sister was the last one to register it, she doesn't
have the title anymore, so I have to wait for her to get a duplicate
from DMV and send it back to the guy I got it from.

Could it be more complicated? I need a car bad, because the pimp mobile
just blew the engine and my Scirocco isn't done yet.

I thought about going to NJ DMV and just telling them that I had the car
a while and finally want to register it, but I can't find the BOS...Any
ideas?
