Newbie: Shifting problems

petrol leaking from the tank can be the filler neck leaking this rot quiet 
often on scirocco's in the UK, as for gearshift, its noramlly the ball that the 
gearastick sits in as far as i know the part is about ?3 but you have to 
remove the exhaust to change it, usless someone else can you different..
