Goodyear F1, Protenza S-03 - anybody have an opinion?

I have S-03 Pole Positions on my Scirocco right now.

As you may or may not know, I generally buy Bridgestone only (RE950s on the
all-season cars, Blizzaks on the winter cars, and RE71s / S-03 for the
summer). -- though I do have a set of ContiSports on my Golf right now,
ContiTourings on my 3-series, and Dunlop SP2000s on my 5-series.

I only have a few hundred miles on the S-03s, and thus far I am pleased
with them. A quick call to the Tire Rack verified my feeling that they
would need a long break-in, so I'm not panicking yet. Noise quality is
fantastic, as is sidewall stiffness. Overall grip (especially when cold)
is nowhere near the RE71s, but Tire Rack assured me it would be better --
and patience is definitely paying off -- as the miles come on, max grip is
getting pretty damned impressive. Sidewalls seem to flex a bit more than
the RE71s, but they were bald -- I'm sure it's just the tread flexing. 1st
gear was useless with the 2.0 on the hard, bald RE71s... I have no traction
problems whatsoever with the S-03s... and they keep getting better.

I'll try to do a skidpad test in the next month. On 2 different surfaces,
in both directions, the RE71s averaged 0.96g in lateral acceleration. I'm
very curious to see if the S-03s can better this (quite impressive)
number. I'll let you all know.

In the meantime, I haven't heard a single bad word about the S-03s, and
everyone's eyebrows rise when I tell them I have them on the Scirocco --
they're often considered the best Max Performance tire on the market.

And they're cheap as shit at the Tire Rack!

GL and HTH!
