Shifter linkage help...

Recently, I had my steering rack swapped to a manual rack.  Part of the linkage (the long rod which controls the throw length, I believe) is attached to the rack so it had to be removed then reattached.  Now, my first gear is about where reverse is - I even have to push down first.  So can someone tell me what and how I have to adjust to get it back to normal - I'm tired of going backwards at every stoplight ;)
