Best way to fix hail "dimples"?

I started working on the body of the 80 S I bought from Kervin last fall, but it's got
about 100 hail dimples on the hood and roof that I don't know what to do with...  I've
watched a friend of mine pull out some dents with a tool that spot-welded a rod onto the
body, and then you use a slide hammer to pull the dent out.  I believe there are WAY too
many dents to use this method (plus there's a chance of burning a hole right through the
steel)

So, what do I do?
