Great News!
I have great news for you today! My best friend Keir just bought a
Scirocco! Finally. He's tried ford, nissan, bmw, mazda, and honda and
finally has come to his senses. I'm not sure if he'll be joining the list
just yet, but he's bound to eventually. I'm preparing a welcome package of
online links and pictures to email him.
We found a gorgeous example of an '83 Rocc in a nice mars red shell. The
body is as close to perfect as I've seen for a non-restored car. There is a
single bubble rust spot on the bottom of a fender but it's nothing at all.
The interior is amazing! Black leather all around, perfect black dash and
perfect carpets. I don't think anyone has ever sat in the back! The
sunroof works perfectly, and apparently doesn't leak as I looked at it at
the end of a 24hr downpour. The only mod is H4 headlights, and a header.
Everything else appeared perfectly factory. No missing interior parts at
all. Power windows which still work well! The car starts and runs but has
an exhaust leak at the silencer. It also drips all kinds of fluids from
the motor. He paid $800 for it, and we'll be driving it to my place for the
motor swap tomorrow.
We will be putting a high comp 1.8l 8V out of a 1992 GTI into it. Should
all bolt up the same, correct? The injection has been stripped from the
motor. Will the header bolted to this 1.7 bolt right up? It Should, IIRC.
Anything I should prepare myself for? We'll be doing a new clutch as
well...
