Engine questions

I am doing the very same project. 2.0L bottom from a 91 16V passat. with an
8V head. You will need to replace the pistons basically. I bought 83mm 8V
Mahle pistons to go into this motor.

I've come across an opportunity to pick up a 91 passat motor for free. 2.0
16v automatic. my question is: Can i use the lower end (Shortblock) w/ my 4k
and JH head (solid)?? I just sank a ton of $$$ into the head, cam, intake, &
header, and don't want to take a hit on it. any info is appreciated
