too much oil!?

what kind of engine? all my roccs hold only 4 qts. adding much more than
that could hurt some seals and stuff, though i don't know that i've heard of
that ACTUALLY doing damage. you may get additional blowby into combustion
chamber (=smoking) or into your intake/soaking air filter etc. i'd remove
the extra, not a big deal to do. get a siphon or a turkey baster thing and
remove from the oil fill hole, or through the dipstick hole.
