I did a conversion about ten years ago, and I didn't change the tank or =
fuel lines. I did use the old filter placement- with new filter. The =
mechanical fuel pump and new fuel lines in the engine compartment =
shouldn't take long to rig. I did use some of those little clear in-line =
filters before and after the fuel pump also. There really isn't any =
"engine management" for a diesel. You will need a power source for the =
coil and choke, again easily rigged. I used a Weber carb, and VW intake =
manifold. I also swapped the speedo and tach from my donor (read mangled =
by a deer) 79 roc- again not too difficult. I'm sure I forgot something, =
but the whole swap only took a couple days. HTH

Really? I was told all new fuel lines would need to be run and a new =
or recoated tank was necessary. The rabbit in question is an '84. I know =
almost as much about carbs as I do diesel, which is to say nothing. Is =
diesel fuel injected? Could I take, say, a 1.7L block and wire it up to =
whatever engine management system is in there? Basically, I think I just =
need someone to explain a diesel engine to me. Are they a whole =
different breed of beast, or are they similiar to gas motors that just =
run on different stuff?=20
