First, welcome to the list. Don't be a stranger.
Second, if you haven't adjusted either the cam or the crank =
independently from each other, (I assume it was running when you removed =
the old belt), you shouldn't have to worry about your timing. Re-install =
the new belt and double-check the timing then. If it's off at that time, =
then follow the timing reset instructions. BTW - you're not at TDC. =
You're at #4, IIRC. #1 will appear at TDC because it's at the zenith of =
its exhaust stroke.

Subject: 16v timing belt difficulties
Hi, I'm new to the list. I just joined today actually. =20
I have a scirocco 16v engine and its out of my vehicle right now. I =
decided to pull the timing belt off to replace it. =20
Like my Bentley says, put the #1 piston to TDC then remove belt. I =
did that. now it states to move the cam sprocket to line up with the =
upper timing mark, but now that I look at mine its 180 degrees (the =
other side) opposite to the timing mark. What should I do?
Can I just slide the new belt on the way it sits?
thanks
