DONT do that. when installing, you tighten them to a specific torque, =
then exactly 1/2 turn more. that last 1/2 turn is what compresses the =
head gasket, and can require torque easily exceeding 100 ft-lbs. the =
trick is that some bolts may require less torque to go their 1/2 turn, =
so its actually normal to have slightly varying torques on your head =
bolts. the ultimate goal isnt to reach a specific torque, its to evenly =
compress the head gasket. messing with the bolts _at all_ after that =
point will risk breaking the gasket seal.

Subject: can head bolts be "tightened" mid-use?
I was just looking at my 9a sitting in my garage and it got pretty =
cruddy over 1.5 years it was in my car. I have a sneaking suspicion part =
of that crud came from the head gasket area. I used the ABA gasket and =
it ran great when I took it out so I don't think I blew anything, but I =
was wondering if there was any way I could "adjust" the headbolts to =
make sure. Maybe just to make sure they're on torque or even maybe give =
'em a hair tighter?? Any thoughts?
TIA, JT
