AH vs HV key differences

i just dug up my old set of locks. this set was in use for about 3 years. the ah
key fit perfect (its an hv lock set). but dirk said something about there being
a trick to getting the key cut peoperly. it may sit slightly off center if the
old key relied on the grooves for centering.
