Larry,
Thanks for the info on the front mount bracket. Mine is the same way. I
wonder what the lower starter bolt threads in to then? Does yours have a
seperate nut?
The solenoid does not seem to be the problem because if I disconnect the
power wire to the starter I can turn the key to start and back many many
times (50+) and each time I can hear the solenoid click as it engages and
disengages.
The problem has increased in frequency lately to the point where it
happens about 1 out of every 5 starts.
The flywheel is new and the gear and everything about the starter look
great so all I can think of is that the starter is damaged in some way
that it torques on the fork that the solenoid pulls on, keeping it from
retracting properly until power is cut to the starter. The starter also
spins very slowly when it "jams on" like this.
A bad ignition switch is ruled out because if it was supplying power to
circuit 50 after the key was out, disconnecting the battery and then
reconnecting it would not make the starter stop (it would resume when the
battery was reconnected)
