new head impressions/problems (of course)

yeah-the problem is is that when i set the cams where i think they should be
(marks aligned with head, using cam gears @ chain), the mark on the sprocket
doesn't appear to be at TDC, but back a tooth. i suspect the cam gear was
installed maybe one tooth off.

>2. Also, another contraversy on this list, how did you install
>the O2 sensor?

i did this twice-first time, i soldered everything and it didn't work.
second, i crimped with shrink wrap. still didn't work. turned out to be a
loose connection at the plug (to one of the white wires). i sort of assumed
that the 02 sensor would work when heated, even with the white wires
disconnected. this isn't the case. now i just want to measure the output
from the green wire directly--if it's a sensor issue, i shouldn't have any
voltage. unfortunately, we're talking mV, which an analog gauge isn't
sensitive enough to pick up (someone mentioned that the resistence is too
high also, which makes it even harder to see).

>4. Who installed the head? You?

me. otherwise it would be working :)

drained the oil before removing old head.

i'm getting oil in the coolant, not vice versa. oil looks fine. more i think
about it, the more i think oil got into coolant passages during
shipping--most oil was drained, but there was still some sloshing around.

head's used. it was breandon (list member) before he wrecked his car. brett
cooke also had the engine in his car briefly with no problems.

>Let us all know how this plays out as I, at least, am curious!! Hope some
>of this helps!

thanks-helps a lot. one thing i've found out. i richened the mixture
yesterday after the initial drive by 1/4 turn b/c i didn't want to burn a
valve. obviously, the dpr current is still fixed at 10ma. what i wasn't sure
about was whether changing mixture in the face of a fixed current does
anything. it does. car is really bogging now at low rpm. so basically, w/o
the dpr i have no way (other than seat-of-pants) to set the mixture. i
really need to straighten this out first i think. i'm going to mess more
today, let you know how it turns out.
