Well I know that the GTI/GLI 8v's were 10:1 and they had knock sensors.
16V engines too(although I think they are 10.1:1-but could be wrong). They
may have said that those motors would work right without a knock sensor.
BTW 8V motors came with a variety of compression ratios.
