Instrument Cluster 8v vs. 16v

I've heard that you can put the 16V 8000 rpm clusters in the late 84 and
newer cars and the they will read accuaratly. I haven't tried it myself so
I can't say or sure.

Is the instrument cluster the same on an 8v and a 16v? I don't need
speedo or tach, just burned out part of circuit boards in my 16v. Can I use
an 8v instrument cluster? How are they different?
