Wheels (17")?

I had 17s on my rocc.  It was shit.  They're just way too big.  They rubbed
everywhere.  I actually had the shitty calipers on my car with the big hoop
sticking out, and the rims rubbed on that too.  Still in my youth, I ground
the things down to fit the rims.  I had to roll all my fenders, and cut out
a whole bunch of my inner fender.  The plastic wheel well things were long
gone of course.  I had 195/40/17s.   Even after all that, they still rubbed
like shit.

The car looked anal to me even though everyone thought it was dank.
Scirocco's should not be on 17s, and that's all there is too it.

Now I understand... Go wide not big.  I want a 10x13.

Since it will probably be a while before I can find a replacement for my
bent/cracked Borbet, I need to find new shoes for the time being. I'm
thinking about going big.

Those of you who have and/or still run 17" wheels on your mkII's, what
size/offset/tire do you run. What is your drop? Rubbing when/where?
