[VW Reliability]
Oh boy , Chryslers. I had a Spirit R/T, Tourbo 2.2 DOHC, very fast car but
when the oil pump decided to lock up it ate the pump shaft bearings retainer
plate, which stripped the timingbelt, boke the tensioner, and then ate the
lobes off of the exh. cam. The rest was cheap but the cam would have bee
700.00! I had the Radiator replaced, 4 weeks to get it in, and 250 for labor
550.00 for the Rad YIKES! The shop owner told me never to bring the car
back again. No thanks. My Mom owns a Plymouth Acclaim, well there's not
much to acclaim other than if you are on the freeway and turn in the head
lights the trans likes to kick down into first or second, and it burns about
a quart of oil a week. Now the golf on the other hand has never left me
stranded, and I only do real maint. to it twice a year. I'll stick with the
VW's thanks. The only time I was left stranded by a VW was when my gas cap
was stolen off my Rabbit and it rained. New fuel pump and lines.....

I'd say mine have been very reliable, with the exception of the headache,
but
when you do nothing to a car for 14 years/ 268 000 kms, it takes a while for
it to come back, the POs did very little upkeep. But the 15 years with the
Jetta (400 000 kms) have been flawless, till my kid started to "modify" it,
and even then he has been unable to kill it. And the bug (118 000 kms) has
been fine too except for the time period with the chip. So no compaints from
me. Ask me about Chryslers. Yikes.
