what i did was remove the "black box" from behind the center console, the one that contains the heater core and blower motor, take it apart (the two have just snap together) and completely clean out the inside. i had leaves and all sorts of crap stuck in there.

ok, one issue with my heating system has been fixed (thanx hit!). now...3 more to go.  

#1- the blower works on 1 2 and 3 settings, but when i put it on 4 it cuts off. 

#2- the defrost and dash vent setings work, but i cant get any heat at my feet

#3- what is the best way to clean out the vents? when i did turn the blower on 3 with the dash vents open there was a cloud of shit that i didnt care to breathe or wear.
