trying to r&r my shift linkage. question first: where can i get the bushing
for the main shift rod, that travels the length of the car; it's the one in
a bracket, just back of the adjustment bolt?
now the long part, if you feel like reading:
installed scott rose's solid shift kit (stuff's in the mail tomorrow scott),
and got a bushing kit to replace everything else. mainly, i'm trying to
eliminate side to side slop, and found the culprit to be the bushing on the
main shift rod (just back of the adjustment bolt). so on saturday i took out
the old bushing, destroying it in the process--it was in pretty bad shape
already. to my dismay i found the bushing kit doesn't include this bushing
for some reason. so since then i've been driving sans bushing, with no 2nd
gear and 1st where reverse should be. no fun. today i called dave at
adirondack; they don't have that part (isn't listed in etka either).
potterman's closed today, will check tomorrow. went to the dealer, and they
said they only sell it with the bracket it goes in ($30). so, being the
cheapass that i am, i got the bushing for an a2 instead (which they do sell
separately for some reason), which seems the same except that it's a bit
wider diameter. it feels better than before, but there's still a little
play. and i snapped a manifold stud trying to loosen the downpipe (to get at
the bracket better. ugh).
