&%@#* brake caliper HELP!
I need help! I'm trying to put new front disc brake components on my '82 =
8v. Everything went well with the driver's side - new disc, new pads, and =
the caliper slipped back on with no problem. =20
On the passenger side, however, it hasn't been so easy. I got the old =
stuff off with no problem, but when I put the new disc and pads on, I =
couldn't get the caliper back on. I can slide it on, over the pads, and =
aaaaalmost get it to drop in all the way, but it stops about 4mm short. =
It appears that the disc is slightly too big. The inside of the caliper =
is hitting on the disc, which is preventing the caliper from sliding all =
the way on and dropping into the brake pad carrier.
However, I measured the old disc against the new, and they're the same, in =
fact, because of rust, the old one appears slightly larger.=20
Anybody ever experience a stubborn caliper before? Any ideas? suggestions?=
Volkswagen Voodoo spells? I'm at wit's end. The rear brakes and =
driver's side front brake took me one evening to do; I've spent two days =
and an evening just trying to get this !@*&%# caliper back together. It's =
getting close to sledgehammer time. =20
In case anyone needs to know: ATE caliper/carrier, new ATE non-vented =
rotor disc, generic pads.
Thanks for any help!
