Crank and water pump pulleys don't line up

I finished re-assembling the engine from my '86 (8V, JH) last night and noticed that the water pump and crank pulleys don't line up.  The water pump pulley is about 1/16 inch closer to the block.  The timing belt sprocket on the crank lines up with the one on the intermediate shaft, so I think the sprocket is correctly attached to the crankshaft, and the crankshaft is installed in the engine correctly.  The crank pulley seems to be seated correctly against the sprocket. I don't know what the pulleys were like before I took the engine apart.

Since the crank is correct, I assume that I either have the wrong water pump (I used the one the PO put on the engine, since he replaced it right before toasting the engine) or I have the wrong water pump pulley.

Any ideas?  I could just shim the water pump pulley out, but I would like to know what's really wrong before I do that.

On an unrelated topic:  I was checking out the interior of the car yesterday and found that with the seatback reasonably upright, I have about 1 inch of headroom (I'm 5'9").  Sounds like I may have Golf/Jetta seats in my MKII.
