How's the Dynomax muffler?

Well, I'm sure glad it is working out for your guys on your 8vs. Again, I
had three in a row on the 16v go bad and a friend of mine that we put a 2.0L
16v in his Caddy had the same problem (went through 2 in 6 months). Unless
they have changed the design in the last 6 months then they are still crap.
They start to rattle inside and sounding like crap until the baffles break
loose and plug your exhaust. Kinda like a cat!! BUT, if you want one, go
ahead and try one! Apparently the little 8vs don't go through these
mufflers like the 2.0L 16vs. I also use to manage a chain muffler shop and
their main line of mufflers was dynocrap and they were warrantied for life.
The dynomax muffler was the muffler that we pushed and so it was the muffler
we sold the most of. Those customers were very grateful to have lifetime
warranties on those mufflers because every 6 mo to a year they got a NEW
lifetime warranty muffler!! I worked at that particular shop for one year
and had customers come in up to three times to re-replace their mufflers. I
guess part of my attitude toward dynocrap is that we sold the heck out of
them and they ended up being crap, AND because I kept having to hack up my
TT exhaust to add another lifetime muffler that would last a few months.
I've been a mechanic for about 15 years and specializing in European cars
over the last 8 years and I would never, ever reccomend a dynomax for a
performance exhaust system. I don't know why TT still uses dynocrap, they
even say that they have a lot of problems with them (ask them, they'll tell
you!!). Adding a dynocrap muffler to a TT system would be like putting
cams, big intake, big throttle body, port and polish on your car and running
a dirty pennzoil air filter!

after it was installed. It sounds fine and not too loud. I got a lifetime
warrenty w/it, I think. I sent in the product reggie postcard. I couldve
gotten a borla, but this muffler is just fine for me. I'd get another one.
Its on a 8v, but I can't imagine their 16v models are worse. Peter
thescirocco told me that this is a good muffler and he was right.

www.scirocco16v.com has an article where he put on a Dynomax and lost lots
of pull, but that was on a 2.0L. 1.8L here, nearly stock (TT cat-back +
racing header).
