Sorry to hear about your beloved.  Reading your description of the accident 
reminded me of my encounter with a piece of rice.  I was in my freshly 
re-painted 8v with brand new Kamei kit, maybe a week after having it done.  
It was about the time of the Fahrvernugen ads and I went to the VW 
dealership to buy one of those T-Shirts.  Coming out of the dealership, I 
was making a left turn onto the road, and across the street, a Datsun 280ZX 
was also making a left turn.  Neither saw the other and we met in the 
middle.  I swear my portable CD player which was on the passenger side floor 
didn't even skip.  All I knew is that I had suddenly stopped moving forward 
and had heard a brief but loud crunch. I needed a new left fender, front 
bumper cover, a headlight, turnsignal, and new Kamei front spoiler.  His car 
was totaled!  The front of his car was about 1.5 feet shorter and the engine 
broke off the mounts.  A VW salesman rushed from his customers to make sure 
we were both alright.  Then he turned back to his customers and shouted: 
"There you have it folks...Volkswagen WINS!"
