Why the Passat? With the Scirocco?

I can't really say for sure why Scirocco owners also own
Passats. Maybe it has something to do with whatever it is
that draws us to the 'roccos, the Passat in some way shares
- though I haven't figured out what.

For me, the Passat is a car that is awesome for freeway
travel and has room to take everything you could possibly
want to take with you, plus it actually handles reasonably
well for its size.

I stumbled on my first Passat a couple years ago in
Cleveland, was going to buy it as a donor for a 2.0 swap as
it had several problems. Turns out these were easily fixed
with an ignition switch and fixing a couple wires in the
transmission computer wiring. I drove it for a year but
really decided I wanted a wagon, which I then lucked into.
I've yet to pay more than $500 for a Passat (all mine have
been B3 models).

Incidentally, if anyone wants to know how to convert to a 5
spd, lemme know & I'll get ya the info.
