Yep, that would be me, and my nephew has a bad keyway on his 1.9TD as wel=
l. He
opted for the scary method of grinding a second slot opposite to the bad =
one,
borrowed time I'd say, and very dangerous on a diesel too. But in his cas=
e, an
edge of the slot had chipped off on the crankshaft, so there was no easy =
fix.
On mine (the original 1.8L 16V engine), it kept going out of time, and a =
new
crankshaft was needed, not just the key, since the slot was broken. Fair =
bucks
by the time you add in bearings and seals and labour and so on. That's wh=
y I
went with the 2L since the 1.8 was pretty tired anyway.
So technically, that keyway was the first thing to fail on the car. And a=
2L
block was the first part I bought for it. Overall, for me it was a good t=
hing.
Hope yours is something else. Bet you miss your other car.
