A gun may or may not be rifled, a pattern of twisting grooves down the
interior of the barrel. Hence riffling.
This may never get resolved to anyone's satisfaction and that maybe due
in part to regional dialects.
Look at this completely un-scientific way; What do you think of when
some one says 'Gun it'! ?
