I want to check the fuel tank on my 1987 16V for the recall.
The PO (2nd owner) was no help. The dealer that sold the car was no =
help. VWoA was no help but they did give me a reference number and told =
me to take it to the dealer.
The dealer service manager ( not a bright one) told me she will order =
the tank and "bring the car in to replace it".
the tank is not leaking. But i doubt the dealer will be able to test its =
integrity, they need a special tool that was loaned by VW to them back =
in 1991.
I heard a lot of horror stories of stealership service and replacement =
of the fuel tank is bit tricky. Axle has to be dropped , dissconnect =
brake lines etc.. I don't want to pick up my car in bad shape, and =
definitely I am not paying for
any replacement parts if they break anything.
Anybody has any experience with this matter?
Demetri
