Need your help! Question about my 16v

  I believe what Peter is experiencing is not the normal 16V 'sluggishness'.
If his problem is the same as mine was (also an '87 16V), it goes totally
flat when you try to take off from a start in a semi-brisk manner.  Even
though your foot is almost floored, the car accelerates (in first gear) like
the throttle is barely above idle.  Then, at about 3k rpm, the power hits so
hard you can literally hear a 'bang'. This only seems to happen in first
gear.  It is so pronounced, and so sudden (when the power finally comes in),
that only an instantaneous fuel flow and/or an instantaneous timing bump
could account for it.
 Anyone know what causes this?  This is the second post in three days asking
about this specific problem.  I do not have an answer.
