Need your help! Question about my 16v

Hi everyone. My name is Peter and I finally bought a 1987 16v Scirocco. Its
actually my 3rd rocco but my first 16v ;-) Very fun i must say. My question
is this. I purchased the car a couple of weeks ago from a dealer/private
party. They couldnt provide me with the mods done to the car. Here is what i
want to know: When i floor the car or even just gently accelerate there is a
noticable lag up till about 3000 rpms and then you just get pushed back in
your seat and you definately start feeling some amazing power and all hell
breaks loose haha. What would be causing this lag? Is it cams? or the exaust
system on my car? Your help would be much appreciated. Thank you.
