Good Tires (Azenis?)
I've driven them on a few cars including my '88 16v.
As "street" tires go, they're friggin incredible! They
are classified by the SCCA as "street" tires, and NOT
as DOT-approved R-Compound race tires like the Kumho
V-700's or Hoosiers. They have become pretty much the
only tire run in the SCCA STS class of autocrossing
where R-compounds aren't allowed.
They definitely aren't R-compounds, but they are quite
close. On the other hand they are streetable since
they have real tread and don't pick up junk nearly as
badly as R-compound tires (I've put nails/screws in my
Kumhos TWICE now just by taking them out for a 30
minute heat cycle on the highway). If you really baby
them and never autocross or do track days, you might
get 8000 miles out of them...maybe. They're very soft.
In autocross lingo, people are saying they're getting
about double what you might expect from Kumho V-700s.
Maybe 100-150 runs depending on the surface.
I don't know about wet traction. Haven't tried them in
the rain yet. I would guess that on a wet surface
they're very good, but they may hydroplane easier if
you hit a puddle. The tire is rated "A" for wet
traction, if that could be construed to actually mean
anything. FYI, it also says it has a wear rating of
200, which is complete BS. :)
You also can't beat the price! Discounttiredirect.com
sells the 205 15's for $70 including shipping!
