throttle cable ?'s

of course this happens while i'm at work, miles away from tools, jacks, and 
the trusty bentley; but as i pulled into work today the throttle cable came 
off of the back of the pedal. don't really want to have the car towed if i 
can avoid, but here's my problem: the cable has disappeared. maybe gone back 
into the firewall? anyone know where to look to find it? also is there a way 
to rig the cable to the back of the pedal so i can get it back to the shop 
and fix it properly? any help greatly appreciated. tia
