Craig,

I didn't know the TT downpipe/cat wasn't smog legal.  I thought that it was. 
  So I'm a little confused by your question.  Are you asking about removing 
the TT downpipe/cat and 2 1/4 catback exhaust everytime you do a smog check? 
  Then you would replace it with stock?  I don't think from a smog 
perspective that there's any difference between stock and the TT system.

The only reason I can see for swapping a cat on and off is to preserve the 
cat so it's fresh for every smog check.  Is that what you're planning this 
for?
