Sounds good so far.  A guy on the vwautocross list just emailed me that
he does the same thing.  Makes sense, as far as I'm concerned.  I'll
want to look at the exhaust, but apparently that's not a showstopper.

Good, that's my thought too.

Now AFA the battery location, the only decent "trunk surface" spot is
behind the driver.  Putting it back by the washer reservoir seems too
far aft for me.  So, I'm thinking to choose the spare tire well, it
keeps the battery nice and low and I'll never ever have a subwoofer
back there.  AFA what Steve said, I don't know of a place to keep it
between the axles and remain SP legal.
