[swap help] ABA+ 8V CIS headgasket Q

Swap is a hybrid: ABA block with 8V CIS head...

I feel as though I've researched this to death...but something's not
working.

As many (including TT) have prescribed, I have acquired the 2.0L 16V
Golf/Jetta head gasket for an ABA block / 8V (CIS) head combo.

The locating pins on the block are both the wrong size to work with
that gasket. One is too big, the other too small (gasket floats around
on that pin).

Is this normal, or have I chosen/received the wrong gasket? It won't
work the way it is, and I don't think hacking the headgasket is the way
to go.
