love my PS

I have a love/hate relationship with my power steering. I love the quick
ratio and ease of turn in. Manual steering used to wear my ass out over a
14-hour race, too. However, you really do lose tactile sensitivity. The
Warpig's manual rack used to telegraph huge amounts of information to my
palms. Whereas, the power rack is relatively numb.

Ultimately the power rack became my preference but I'm still not happy with
the compromise. So... my current plan is to ditch the heavy PS pump and rig
up an electrical unit from a Subaru XT6 or SVT. Varying the assist will be a
matter of adjusting the input voltage. My assumption is that the lack of
feel is correlated to the amount of assist. I, however, is that it is simply
the presence of the hydraulic fluid that damps the reactive motion of the
rack -manifesting itself in that numb feeling. Hmmm...

Whaddyuz say, guys?
