a/c retrofit kit??

well obviously you want to draw a vacuum on the sys. to get all of the
moisture and "non-condensables" out of the piping, reciver-dryer, condenser
and evaporator. in school we just went over all of the HAVC theory, so it's
all pretty fresh in my mind. i'm not too familiar with the kits you get
from pep-boys or what not, do they come with oil and all the new fitings you
need? and as far as temp. goes, the only thing that is a big difference
between r-12 and r-134a (besides the price) is how efficently it transfers
heat energy. they say that for a r-134a system to work as good as r-12, you
need an evaporator that is about 1/2 again as large as the origional.
something that also affects a/c output is this little thing they call "heat
load" . this is a combination of abient air temp, humidity, "sun load", and
the amount of people in the vehicle. the more heat load there is on the
system, the warmer the outlet temp is going to be. annother drawback of
r-134a is that a small r-12 leak is will leak more with r-134a, due to the
fact that the r-134a molecule is smaller than an r-12 molecule. but as far
as being the best "bang for your buck" r-134a is definatly the way to go.
not to mention that it's more ozone safe than r-12. sorry for the ranting,
but i just aced my hvac final today, so i've got a pretty big ego right now
and need to show off my knowledge of the subject. ;) thanks for listening
to me rant.
