glass polishing: how to?

HYDROFLORIC ACID?!?!  Isn't that one of the most hardcore and dangerous
acids known to man?  i would definetely wear gloves. ;P

Hydrofloric acid will attack glass, but I'm not sure if the results would be
an improvement.....
(we use hydrofloric to clean titanium vapor deposits off the glass windows
in our electron beam welding machines where I work.  This gives good
results, but those windows don't have scratches/pits on their surfaces)
