MK1 Guru HELP need - Urgent :)
The only things that WON'T fit are the body parts and
body-specific interior parts. The suspension,
drivetrain, and basic *chassis* design are all the
same. Think of it this way, if it's cosmetic, it
probably doesn't fit. If it's a key part of the car,
it probably does. Thus:
> Front Seats
Yup. Seats were different, but had the same mounting
system.
> Carpet
Hmmm...tough one. Depends on what do you mean by
"fit"? :) The basic dimensions are the same, but there
might be problems with how it fits under/around the
dashboard, center console, and other trim pieces.
IMHO, the answer is a probably NO.
> Upper and Lower 8V Stress Bar
Yup
> Front and Rear 16V Sway Bars
Yup, but you'll probably have to drill the mounting
holes.
> Stainless Exhaust
Yup. (tho in '85 they went to the mini spare tire...)
> Front struts/spring assembly
> Rear shocks & Springs (just put on new suspension
> with poly bushings, etc)
Yup.
> where
> else do they tend to have rust problems that would

Look along the door sills and the floor pans from the
firewall to the foreward seat mount. If you can, look
under the carpet. The trunk and spare tire well also
have problems. Of course, the fenders and wheel wells
are the biggest issue because the mk1s didn't have any
plastic fender liners. Don't forget to check around
the window seals and the hatch.
Good luck!
