Motor oil recommendations

Motor oil recommendations are directly related to the exterior temperature
of your car

I run 20w50 all year round, but I live in Texas, if you trued running 20w50
in winter time (and I know it freezes over in NY) you would find your engine
would not turn over very easily.

The VW user manual, Bentley, Chilton, Haynes covers the temperature ranges
and recommended oil weights you can use.

Personally when I lived in Canada (3 years ago) I ran 10w40 summer, 5w30
winter with the scirocco (70-80' summer, -20'F winters)

=>I was curious what grade motor oil the masses think is a good
=>idea for a 16v
=>with 200K miles on it.
=>
=>I have been using 10W30 but have heard others using 20W50. Most of my
=>driving is highway going 80 miles back and forth to work.
