Idles great w/o A/C
Hi,
Since nobody else replied, I'll take a shot at this. On my 8v, there are
2 valves on the passenger strut tower, one of which is supposed to open up when
the AC compressor engages to stabilize the idle. I would guess the 16v has
something very similar since the compressor can take a lot out of the engine
when it's engaged.
So, I would suggest start looking for whatever is supposed to stabilize
the idle when the AC compressor is on. Is there a valve that should open but
isn't? Is is opening but causing a vacuum leak? Is the AC compressor
partially seized? Is the system AC overcharged (this can cause the compressor
to work extra hard)?
Good luck!
