Which knock sensor can I use?

I have an 88 16v and I need to replace the knock sensor. My friend has one
from a 87 16v. It is slightly different than mine (the Bentley manual
depicts two variations). Is it alright to use the Type I sensor instead of
the Type II? Thanks.
