Oil squirters. Required, or dead weight?
But, but, but, wait a minute. What are you proposing to do with the holes in
the block that will now allow all of your lovely oil pressure to escape? If
nothing is done to those holes, the head will last less than a minute and we
don't want that now. Drawing upon my 1.8 16v experience, I'd ask if perhaps
they should be pointing to one side of the other and that might relieve your
clearance problem. Mine could be installed anywhere in about a 120 deg. arc.
If that fails you could tap the holes with a pipe tap (tapered) and put
allen screws in with plenty of Locktite. I've done this many times when the
slugs were removed from crank oil passages for cleaning. In this application
it also facilitates cleaning the crank later as well.
Good luck.
