This is for an 8v JH with a 4k trans:
I bought this car used and the previous owner replaced
the trans and presumably the clutch.
I go to the gym tonight and the clutch pedal feels
very tight. Think nothing of it, and on the way
back, punch it up to 6k rpms on a straight away.
After this, I gas the car and it feels like it does
when the clutch is slipping - give it gas and it
barely moves. I haven't had any clutch problems so I
discount that the clutch is toast. I pull over to
check if the clutch cable has bound and it hasn't.
hmmm, drive the car a little bit with same symptoms.
Pull over and loosen the manually adjustable clutch
cable. Car now drives normally with plenty of power.
Yeah! Shit, I start hearing strange grinding noise
when the clutch is pressed in. I drive home and jack
up car. Notice that noise only happens when the
clutch is pressed in. After a bit the noise continues
happening even when clutch is not engaged. I poke
around and notice that the noise is coming from the
timing hole in the trans bellhousing. I put a light
to it and see little falkes of metal being spit out.
Shit. Seems as if something is rubbing against the
bellhousing. I don't know if it is the flywheel or
the pressure plate.
i will pull the trans tomorrow to see what happened.
i hope I broke either the pressure plate bolts or the
flywheel bolts and something is moving around. The
only other thing I can think of is that the crank
bearing is toast and the whole damn assembly is moving
around. I pray not.
Any ideas from the 'been there done that' crowd?
please email off list since I am on digest mode.

thanks,
Victor
