VR6 Question

Seriously, I'd remove the belt and check the shaft play in the
alternator. (side to side, in and out) Then give it a spin by hand.
Sometimes, if the bearings are bad, you can hear them when there's no
tension on the pulley. As I remember, the regulator on those is
internal, but maybe you can try testing output before removing the belt.

I can't figure out what this is. Every so often all the lights will dim
on the Jetta a little bit and I will here this turbine sounding thing
spool up, sound just like a jet engine. Its not the fan because It
usually happens like a minute after I start her up, and I checked it once
when I heard it and the fans were not on. Any Ideas. Thanks
