Tech: Engine Swap (scirocco to Jetta)

I know but it is somewhat related.

I just purchased an 88 Jetta with Digifant, the engine smokes at 3100 rpm 
and above. I have a JH Engine in the garage that is a strong runner.

Can I swap the JH in and just swap intake and exhaust, I realize the JH puts 
out 10 less hp. But it should work right, basic block is the same?

Any thoughts.
