big ol' "ARGH" with ball joints
Joe,
Recently went through this with my 16v when I was replacing the
bearings. I had the same problem, I pryed the clamping ends aprart as best
I could and even used a crowbar with no luck of getting the disk assembly to
come off the ball joint. I wound up using a pickle-fork (looks like a fat
tuning fork) between the ball joint and the assembly and then having a
friend place his foot on the a-arm and pull on the assebly as I pried like a
mofo with the pickle-fork. A few minuets of that and I gave up. Then my
friend just desided to give the thing one last yank and it popped off.
Needless to day, when I put it back on, the ball-joint stub got a nice dose
of axle grease to help prevent that episode from happening again.
