Eric,

This whole Honda -vs- VW thing has always seemed to me to be a little 
petty. (Maybe I'm just getting old, he he)
My bone stock 81S is faster than a stock 1981 Honda Prelude/Accord/Civic.
It is probably not faster than a stock 81 Mazda RX7 or an 81 Toyota Celica.
My modified (TT 1847cc w/~130hp) 81S is probably as fast as most NA modded 
Honda/Mazda of the 81 model year (or that era).
A modded NA Datsun 260Z or Toyota Celica would probably be faster than mine 
tho'.
Comparing my modded 81S with a new car is not to my advantage and I am 
bound to end up the loser.
Why?
Shabby mods?, non-performance bolt on's?, no knowledge of performance?, bad 
driver....??????
IMO this is not the case with me or my Scirocco.
All the mods done to my car were well thought out, done with expert care 
and precision by me and with "real" performance/reliability in mind.
I would consider myself a well above average driver (most my friends/family 
consider my driving exceptional).
OK so why can't I beat those pesky Honda's?
Simple........Technology!
The newer cars have highly advanced computer systems controlling 
Air/fuel/ignition.
These cars/engines were also designed with the latest computer technology.
Does this make my Scirocco inferior to a Honda, yeah in someway's I guess 
it does just like a Porsche 356C or a Mercedes 300SL might be considered 
inferior to my Scirocco. (see my point).

By upgrading my Scirocco to the latest technology (1.8T transplant, 16V 
with SDS/TechII) I would probably be able to beat a new 'stock' Honda but 
then I am now comparing a modded car against a stock car. (not to mention a 
lighter car against a heavier car).

Now what about drivers?
You could take two drivers in identical cars and get two totally different 
1/4 mile, autoX or track times.
When you race and Honda and 'beat' him, are you beating the Honda or the 
driver??, was he even racing you??

OK so I guess my point is it is pretty pointless to compare our Scirocco's 
to the latest Honda has to offer for the above reasons.
I consider my Scirocco in it's current form to be fairly quick and 
extremely fun to drive both on the street and track......that's what's 
important to me :)

I guess after mulling it over I was wrong to ask you to cease posting about 
this subject....I just need to use the 'delete' key more often.
