OT: C & D and other magazines

Well with all due respect I would agree with about half of those statements.
Yes, the cars are maintained by a seperate company (called A&M for most of
the places around the country and Specialty Transport in the others not
served by A&M) but many of them are unique from the standard press cars. I
spoke to my friend who is the Fleet Manager for VW and Audi and she claims
that in the case of my 2000 GTI 1.8t that I bought from VW they spend an
average of $10,000 per car to make sure that the car is perfect.... They
hand build the cars seperately and have a completely different set of people
to go through the quality process as the car rolls down the line... As a
perfect case in point to the cars differing from production models my GTI
had a provision for the rear differential that was unique from the cars that
we see here in North America.

All is not perfect however; I recently got an Audi A6 with the new CVT
transmission from A&M that was delivered with the check engine light on and
it didn't go ten feet without shutting down completely! Probably some bad
gas but still... Audi roadside assistance does have its' merits. ;-)

Your humble servant,

Paul
